Gaming Funds Give Coquitlam Kids More Space to Play COQUITLAM –The Kinsmen Club of Coquitlam will receive $100,000 from the capital grant program for the construction of a new accessible playground, Port Moody-Westwood MLA Iain Black announced today.

"As a parent, I understand the importance of play as an essential part of childhood. I am thrilled that the Kinsmen Club of Coquitlam was successful in their application to the program," said Black. "I encourage other non-profit community organizations to contact their MLA’s office for more information on how to apply to this and other grant programs."

The funds will be used to help build an accessible playground for all ages and ability levels at the Coquitlam Town Centre Park. The City of Coquitlam will also contribute to the project.

"The Kinsmen & Kinette Clubs of Coquitlam are excited to further their motto ‘serving the community’s greatest need,’ with this park. This project, as well as the Blue Mountain Water Park, the Kiddies Park at Como Lake and the Kinsmen Room at Crossroads Hospice are examples of fund raising dollars going back to the community", said Malcolm Kennedy, Co-Chair of this project.

Through the capital project grant program, an organization can apply for funds to build a new facility, or renovate or maintain an existing one. The organization’s contribution must be equal to - or exceed - the grant funding. As well, the total cost of the project must exceed $20,000 and the facility must be open to the public when completed.

Funding to charities for capital grants comes from the direct access program, which provides grants to eligible organizations with funds from government gaming revenues. To be eligible for a capital grant, organizations must be non-profit, benefit local communities, and have volunteers in key positions.
