| November 17, 2009 VICTORIA - The Province of British Columbia is strongly supportive of the two economic development and co-operation agreements signed today by the governments of Canada and India, announced Iain Black, Minister of Small Business Technology and Economic Development. "The Province of British Columbia has long advocated for closer economic and cultural ties with India and is very pleased with the signing of these historic agreements," said Black. "Our government hopes these steps will lead to a permanent trade agreement between Canada and India. British Columbia looks forward to doing more business with our friends in India, and assisting Ottawa in expanding and strengthening our growing economic relationship." The two agreements signed today between Canada and India are a Memorandum of Understanding to launch a Joint Study Group to formulate the parameters of a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement, and a Memorandum of Understanding on Energy Co-operation. In August 2009, British Columbia opened its first India-based trade and investment office in Bangalore. This office helps B.C.'s export-ready companies link to opportunities in India, promotes the province as a destination for investment and trade, and advances bilateral partnerships in research and development. -30- | |
